ABOUT COMPUTER

This is computer age. Day to day activities of almost everyone is being influenced by the use of computer. In areas like science and technology, improvements cannot be achieved without computers.

The incredible speed of computer can be gauged from the fact that its speed is measured in terms of milliseconds, microseconds, nanoseconds or picoseconds i.e. one thousandth, one millionth, one billionth and one trillionth of a second respectively. In addition to its speed, computer also has got accuracy even though it must be remembered that if faulty instructions are provided for processing the data, faulty answer is given which is also called GIGO i.e. garbage in garbage out. Hence, if it is instructed correctly it's obvious that there no chance of getting incorrect answer. Computers are ideal machines for carrying out repetitive and voluminous work. In simple words they never get bored. Computers being machines are highly consistent. In a computer once recorded information is never forgotten. Furthermore, any information can be retrieved almost instantaneously.

MAKING THE MODERN WORLD

During the late 20th century there was a dramatic shift from expensive mainframe computers which occupied whole rooms, to personal machines that are networked together to form a powerful tool for communication. How did this major multinational industry grow from university research and a few kids trying to impress each other with their programming skills? And what did the defense industry have to do with it? This is the extraordinary story of how a bunch of nerds with little business experience made up the rules as they went along, ending up creating the personal computing industry that exists today and transforming our global communications landscape In the 1950s powerful computing machines were used in America, the Soviet Union and other developed countries. They were hugely expensive but they offered unequalled processing power for academic and military research. Access to these machines was limited, so researchers started ‘time-sharing’. This meant that users could simultaneously access a mainframe computer through a series of terminals, although individually they had only a fraction of the computer’s actual power at their command.
As the number of central computers grew, with a corresponding number of users, a serious need arose for networking between them. This coincided with a Cold War fear in the US that they needed to develop a communications system that could not be affected by a Soviet nuclear attack. The Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was founded in 1958, funded by the US Department of Defense. Among its projects was a remit to test the feasibility of a large-scale computer network, and so it invited a number of American computer hosts to join ARPANET. This network of a few mainframe machines formed the foundations of the Internet and later linked with similar networks across the world, such as ALOHA net in Hawaii.

Computer in research

Nowadays it is difficult to start scientific research project without computer. In today's world the key function of computer technology is to facilitate their ability to globally generated knowledge. Computer has more information than teachers, textbooks. Computer can provide quicker and easier access to more extensive and current information for researchers. They are even more engaging and intersting to use than textbooks as information. There are different search engines in computer internet from which information of any topic could be find out. No doubt computer is 100% accurate so, information given it is always correct. One can blindly beleive upon the information given by computer.

Computer systems are ubiliquitous and society increasingly dependent on them. They range from microprocessors embedded in automobiles and appliances to worldwide grids of advanced processors, storage, graphic devices and instruments interconnected by high speed networks.

Computer in astrology

Astrology is science that is based upon mathematical calculation of planets' positions in the sky and their relationships between each other. Computer does not operate without instructions. In the past decade, computer have done a lot for astrology. They have made possible a new generation of more accurate ephemeral, including ephemeral of asteroids previously unavailable. They are used in carrying out a number of research projects that would probably not have been attempted without them. They are 100% accurate. But errors can be found in new programs and in updates of even the best software.

Computer in medical field

In the field of medicine, computer has different uses including medical education at all levels, point of service medical information, medical research, EMRs, collection of data to find out quality of care and medical education. high speed connections, availability of wireless connections, decreasing cost of hardware and software, public and government demands for increased quality of care and documentation of that quality are the reasons that use of computer are increasing in medical field day by day.

computers can decrease the amount of information needed to be memorized high quality knowledge without reading journals and books that are time consuming.

computer can be less usefull for those physician who have less type speed, need extra time and effort to get used to and create fear of making interaction between patient and doctor.

Disadvantages of machine

1.it cannot operate without electricity.
2.it can make mind passive.
3.playing games on computer can dull mind, waste of time.
4.it makes one far from society.
5.it can make one away from books, magazine and soon.
6.it can transform evil from one computer to other.

Importance of machine

1. computer can be used to save data.
2. it can give soft copy as well as hard copy output which can be very useful e.g.publishing books.
3. it has narrower the world due to facility of pages e.g.email.
4. it can do simple as well as complex calculation in nanosecond accurately.
